Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. She was the first child born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. The young woman was just a toddler when her father who was an carnival barker, died. Her mother was forced to perform tasks including waitressing and cleaning. Ruth lived in a slum Boston tenement community in Massachusetts. She was a student in Boston. But she quit school in the span of two years in order to take on a acting career. The route she took wasn't without its challenges. When she was in New York, her first assignment was to shoot stills in crime magazines. the theatre work that she longed for was not available. Then, she worked as a hat check girl at an evening club, before deciding to call it quits and returning to Boston. The city of Boston was where she worked during the evening as an actor for the New England Repertory Company and the rest of the time as an usherette. She also completed her studies at Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she specialized in drama.
